12 weeks ago, I was self conscious about how my body looked after losing 112 lbs.  (ironic, i know)    I had flabby skin and contemplated plastic surgery.  I chose the SHAPE Challenge for just that—the challenge of it.  I am a ‘project’ kinda girl.  I like doing things and this seemed like a project on my body.

In 6 weeks, I felt like I was overcoming such a personal hurdle of accomplishing what I could never get done before, that is to consistently exercise.  It became  a habit, a part of my day and I was constantly finding ways to fit in an extra class!

Now, I feel great.  I have biceps.  I can see progress weekly, not just with my strength but as I am actually doing the exercises.  I’m addicted to it.  My kids see how much I love it, and that feels good to me that they’ve been able to see such a positive change in me especially since getting a divorce.

Shape It Up boot camp has been my sanity, my savior, my outlet.  I don’t think you [Shape It Up] could ever know what this means to each person, but to me, this program has meant the world to me.  I like the women I’ve met and the support we give each other.

Shape Challeger Update

The Feb Shape Challenge is in full swing and coming to a close!

We have some very motivated and hard working women in this challenge.

We have 1 week left of the current Challenge and you should see what these women have accomplished….

Here are their numbers collectively from a month ago (I am looking forward to seeing the final numbers!):

They have lost a total of 29 inches….

24% Body Fat….

AND…

48 pounds…

…but as I always say, it’s not about the numbers but how you feel about yourself!

What I love is not just how much healthier they are looking but that look in their eye  that exudes more confidence and excitement about life in general.

These women are stronger and more fit than day one.  They are attacking each boot camp class with more confidence and I can’t wait until the final day of this Challenge….

Saturday, Dave from the South Jersey Running Company, came and visited us at Shape It Up Fitness.

The seminar was on the different types of fitness foot wear that is out there.

It was a great seminar and we are now going to be more savvy fitness shoe shoppers after hearing what Dave had to say.

What I like about the SJ Running Company is that they take the time to fit your foot to the correct shoe.  You can’t just go in an pick what shoe you want off the wall.  Because that shoe you picked might be really horrible for your particular feet.  I don’t know about you but I want the most comfortable and supportive shoe I can find especially when you are working out.

Some Changes…

If you have been at Shape It Up over the past 6 Months you should have noticed some changes….

not only with your own physique but with ours!

Shape It Up has grown are great deal and we have added some pretty great people to our staff.

So I would like to introduce you to them…

Becky Lyons, Personal Trainer and Pilates Instructor (no picture yet)

Becky has actually been a part of Shape It Up for about 2 years (with some time off in between).

She is a ACE Certified Personal Trainer and Pilates certified.   Get a great sweaty butt-kickin’ workout at Becky’s boot camp classes. For Pilates, she offers a more “regular person” mat Pilates to get that core tight.  Becky has 3 kids (1 set are twins!) and resides in Harrison Twp with her husband, kids and 2 dogs.

Ashley Artese, Personal Trainer and Zumba extraordinaire

 

Ashley will kill you with a smile!  She pushes you hard in class all the while with a huge smile on her face.  Her energy is infectious!  Ashley has a Masters in Exercise Science and is also a black belt in Martial Arts.

Talia has a calmness about her but make no mistake you’ll get a great workout in her classes! Her Zumba classes make everyone feel at ease with their dance/coordination skills.

I have known Gina for a couple of years now…she has been through boot camp and after a small set back is back into classes.

Gina is your go-to girl!  She will be helping SIU grow behind the scenes.  (So don’t be surprised if you get an email from her ;-)   You will also get the chance to meet Gina in the evenings either while she is helping with checking people in or taking a class for herself.  I am extremely happy to have Gina as a part of the SIU Family!

Healthy Eating Out

Dining Out at Toscana's

On March 26th, Shape It Up had their first Dining Out Healthy Luncheon!

This lunch is a great way for people to make better food choices off a restaurant menu so you can stay on track with your fitness goals.

I armed the participants with helpful tips and my little secrets on how I choose wisely when I go out dining.

We had a delicious meal at Toscana’s Restaurant located in Mullica Hill NJ.  Mimmo (the owner of Toscana) knows how to bring out the flavor in food!

Here are some of the comments about out lunch:

“Enjoyed today’s lunch, found it very informative, will use the “tip card” from now on.  Lunch was absolutely delicious.  Information is power.  I like to learn from you.  Thank you.”

April SIU Client of Month

Congratulations to Susan Snyder!!

Susan made Client of the Month for April.

We actually had a tie in the weight loss department but Susan won out because she has attended more classes!

Susan works incredible hard every time in class… And every day she attacks and accomplishes what I throw at her.

For being our Client of the Month, Susan just received a $25 gift card to Kohl’s Department Store so she can pick out some new smaller clothes!

Kudos to Susan for her hard work and determination!

I weighed myself this morning and I have lost 15 pounds since I started in September.  When I started, I couldn’t do any jumping jacks or jump rope, now I can do a minute of each!  I couldn’t do a single mountain climber and now I can do a few – my goal is to do a minute of those too!  But the best part of all this hard work is that I feel great, and I have you to thank for that.  So thank you for all the great classes and motivation, thank you to my daughter-in-law Ashley for getting me started, thank you to my sister Kathy for sticking by my side and all the laughs, and thank you to all of the other great ladies for their example and encouragement! ~Susan

Couples Boot Camp

Last Saturday at Shape It Up Fitness, we had Couples Boot Camp for Valentine’s Day.  Most of the womens’ husbands/boyfriends didn’t make it. (I know you guys are a bit intimidated by us womenfolk -lol!) BUT we did have one man representing today!  Judy brought Ed and he was a great sport!

During class, we did partnering exercises though a majority of the time the room was filled with laughter!  Everyone got to try some new exercises and worked those abs laughing! Thanks to all who attended and a special thanks to Ed for joining us for class!!

Free Fitness Day!

A huge ” THANKS!” to all who came this Saturday to Free Fitness Day!

My current campers were there bright and early for their assessments.

Then we got right into boot camp class -always a challenging class for those just starting :-)

Yogalites was next…great floor class that has a blend of Pilates and Yoga.

Finished up with Zumba… Ashley’s enthusiasm is contagious!  Great high energy cardio class!!

Kudos for those who were there the whole day!!! You guys got a great day of fitness in.

After all the classes, we had delicious foods from In The Zone Delivery.  They food was soooo good!  The really do a great job on their fresh, all natural meals.  Special thank you to In The Zone Delivery for donating the meals!! I also want to especially thank Shelle McGovern for helping me out from set up to helping the day run smooth and cleaning up….without your help the day would not have been as successful as it was- THANKS!

Make A Difference Day

A BIG “Thank You” to all who attended the Make A Difference Day!

We had a great workout out at Chestnut Branch Park in Mantua.

I was concerned that it was going to be too cold but it turned out to be perfect weather for a workout!

Those who came out, pat yourself on the back for making a small difference in your life!

I talk to campers all the time that say ” I have a friend who could really use this boot camp class but…..” and then there is usually some excuse like “she has 100 kids and works full time” or “is sick all the time” …these are all valid excuses.  But they are just that excuses.  I love this reason “I already belong to a gym”.  Well, let me ask you…what kind of results have you seen since you’ve been at the gym?…

What I am hearing is they have not made commitment to themselves and their family to put their health first.

I have campers who have kids, full time jobs and illnesses and/or medical issues but guess what …they are there faithfully doing their workouts because they know that they can’t be 100% to anyone else unless the put themselves first. They know they are making lasting changes.  Just take a look at our testimonials or come in and take a class and talk to actual campers making a difference in their lives.

Campers please keep helping me spreading the word about health and fitness.  You never know when it might spark someone to take a step towards a healthier lifestyle.  You could be saving someone’s life.

Fitness is contagious!  I actually have a boot camper who’s husband calls her a “Boot Camp Junkie”.  She can’t get enough!  And her results are proof of her commitment.

It just takes one class and you’ll see how boot camp can be life altering.

Remember it’s not just today that you can make a difference.

Everyday, you have choices to make.

Make good ones and your body will reward you!

Fun Run

My son and I had a great time at the Centre City Fun Run this morn!

It was a nice brisk walk this morning.  It’s great to see families out enjoying their time together and doing something healthy!

Remember it’s about being active in life. The little things add up….find something you enjoy to do and get your family and friends involved!
